The Memorial corridor and the villages along it — Hunters Creek, Piney Point, Bunker Hill, Hedwig, Spring Valley and Hilshire — were built out from the late 1950s onward with long, low ranch houses on big wooded lots. That housing stock is now at the age where the structure is sound but nothing else is: original kitchens, original baths, small closed-off rooms, and single-pane windows facing a back yard nobody can see from inside.
The highest-value work here is usually opening those houses up. Removing the wall between the kitchen and the family room, widening the openings to the back of the house, replacing flooring throughout, rebuilding bathrooms, and adding covered patios that make the lot usable in summer. Where a family needs more room, a rear or side addition often works well on lots this size — provided the drainage and the tree cover are respected.
